RMA

Mission Control

NATO

Brief

The NATO AWACS E-3A Component approached Adobe to help them to upgrade their mission planning solution, using the Flex/Flash platform.

NATO made innovation a focus for both the method of project delivery as well as the new interface that had to integrate the large volumes of data required to host a mission with complex mapping information.

With a multi-national flight team, AWACS aircraft need their mission details presented in a way that is quick and easy to assimilate. RMA supported Adobe by integrating Flex and LiveCycle data services with ESRI mapping to provide mission planning data using visuals that are easier and quicker for flight crews to understand and bypass language barriers.

As part of the Agile development approach, application functionality was delivered in a regular flow of short development iterations which were well tested and rapidly deployed into production. This made adoption of the new application smoother and easier from a user’s perspective and resulted in a very successful introduction of the new mission planning application.

Outcome

The new Mission Planning solution has been very well received by its users, to the extent that several further phases of development are now planned. The project approach was hailed as delivering significant advantage over the way projects have previously been delivered.
